We need a joke.

I think my Personal Assistant knows I am stressed.

He rubbed my back today when I burst into tears after the latest bit of "Not terrible, just terribly inconvenient" news and said, "I think you are just having a frustrating day Mommy." Poor kid. He is two-and-a-half and already doomed to a life of unrequited empathy.

A few days ago, when he wasn't feeling well, he curled up in my lap, worried about the dogs barking down the street. They sounded "scary".

So I did the only logical thing I could think of: I translated the conversation for him.

"So the first dog says ,'HEY! HEY! HEY! HEY! HEY! HEY! HEY! Wanna play?'

And the second dog says, 'YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! I wanna play.'

And then the first dog says, 'LETS PLAY BALL!'

And the second dog says, 'SQUIRREL!' " and I jerked my head away.

We both fell apart laughing. We've been telling and re-telling it at each other's low moments all week.

Sometimes you just need a joke.
